"I can't say enough good things about Jen and Jon and the BPM team! I did their instructor training course, which I found incredibly useful. The information was clearly presented, Jon knows what he is talking about and is enthusiastic about spinning and exercise in general. It's catching! I was very impressed with their philosophy which is no gimmicks just scientifically proven facts to help get you fit and lose weight. They tell you exactly what you need to know in a clear way that is pitched at just the right level. Jon is also very patient and supportive and no question is too big or small. They are a down to earth, friendly and professional team. It was a pleasure doing their training course and I would highly recommend the BPM studio to any spinners (beginners or advanced) out there."
Thanks again,

My Spinback experience to a healthier lifestyle and a fitter and slimmer me.
While living the good life in Shanghai I met friends that I often had a bite and drinks with and these guys asked me whether I was interested to join them on Saturday morning and go spinning at Jen and Jon's studio. 'Yeah why not', I said and so I became one of the early members of what is now called BPM. Jen and Jon are always there for you and they make you feel welcome. Although the first few spinning classes were hard, as I had not done much sports since in Shanghai from 2005 other than some irregular tennis and once or twice a year touch rugby tournaments, there was always a drive to go on the bike on Saturday morning. I always motivated myself to go, even after extended after work drinks on Friday night. When, during a regular medical check up, slightly high cholesterol levels and higher blood pressure were diagnosed, I decided to work that and get it back to normal by increasing my spinning frequency and change my diet.
I increased the frequency of spinning to four times a week (rain or shine, sober or drunk (during the World Cup last summer for example), pitch dark (at 6.30am during Shanghai winters) or already hot and humid on Saturday mornings during summer, I went to the Spinback studio. I even bought a pair of biking shoes to be able to work out more effectively and Jon gave me the right instructions in real-time from shanghai when I was buying my shoes on one of my visits to New York. Again, the main reason, next to my health was the fact that it was always a pleasure to meet Jen and Jon and the fellow spinners like Cees, Anselm and Ron for example.
On the diet side I started having breakfast, as advised by Jon, which reduced a lot of weight already in the first couple of weeks. I also started using a calorie counting app and changed from a multiple pizzas and hamburgers a week habit to more salad, fruit and no 'all you can eat and drink' teppanyaki or buffets. I did continue to visit my favourite watering holes and needed to have some 'meat lovers pizza' every now and then but I did keep track of volumes and when it has been excessive one day I would make up for it the rest of the week. I still remember how surprised I packed my shoes and visited the hotel gym spin bikes during my overseas trips to Jakarta and Paris for work. Something that never happened in the six to seven years before, it seems I became a 'spin addict'.
Wow! The combination of this, together with the Spinback guidance, made me reduce my weight from around 93-95kg in May 2013 (pictures available when I visited Hawaii in May 2013) to 75-76kg where it is now (also pictures available from when I left Shanghai when it was around 79kg, the initial goal). I also became much more fit and like to work out now, or better, I have to. My blood pressure is back to normal levels and I am convinced my cholesterol be at the decent levels next time I will do my medical check up as it went in the right direction when I had it checked a couple of months ago.
In the meantime I moved to NYC and am missing Spinback but I kept exercising and watching the diet so I am spinning here now as well when work and travel allow. I have to admit that after more than a year without I could not resist a hamburger and may have more it often, but not multiple times a week anymore. I think this is all right as long as I keep tracking weight and keep spinning!
I hope this experience will encourage others to work on their fitness with Jon and Jen because Spinback is the most effective, friendly and fun place to work out in Shanghai.

Shanghai! World commerce center. Skyscrapers in every direction. The beating heart of globalization. Ho hum. What has me most enthused about Shanghai is its oasis: Spinback Fitness.
Yesterday I spent 10X as much to "detox" at a spa, yet the spa didn't bring 1/10 the satisfaction of a good, hard, endorphin-kicking workout. What fun to join you, Todd, Diana, Bjorn, and the others for an experience I'll remember for a long time. I really appreciate that you thought to include me, Rebecca, and that you all made me feel welcome.
Thank you!
PS: If you find yourselves in Pennsylvania, I would love to return the favour with a spin at my class and/or an outdoor ride that rivals anything we enjoyed today on your plasma TV :)

Spinning in Shanghai in the environment of Spinback, guided by the nice owners and other instructors is a great start of the day in buzzling Shanghai and for me personally a great alternative for running which makes me feel grateful after some months of inactivity.
I always imagined that a spin instructor would be a Rottweiler of a woman, in black lycra, who would bark at me while I wobbled helplessly on the bike wishing for the end of the class and praying for a bottle of red wine and some carbs.
I am delighted to report that none of the instructors at Spinback are anything like that – rather they take the bizarre concept of indoor cycling and turn two of my evenings a week into a fun and fantastic workout with a great selection of music.
They encourage beginners to hang in there, challenge the intermediates to push themselves and the pro’s, well they’re teaching you.
Wouldn’t trade Jon & Jen for all the tea in China.

I enjoy attending classes at the Spinback studio as it provides a unique, fast paced, high intensity workout. I like that each 50 minute spin class is kept varied and energetic with upbeat music and instructors that have their own style of enthusiasm. For someone who was new to spin instructors Jon and Jenny provided me with great advice and continue to assist with any queries I have. I feel my body has definitely become stronger, leaner and more toned since I've started spinning. I highly recommend giving it a try!
